Education for As Manulea

Solar Chapter decided to make Education as its second chapter after seeing the students of
SDN As Manulea during their first implementation visit for Chapter 1: Water in Desa Umutnana, a neighboring village to Desa As Manulea. SDN As Manulea, at the time of visit, did not have running water in the school and students had to spend approximately 2 hours to retrieve water before school and during school.

Additionally, the ceilings were run down, the library was left unused and many doors and locks were broken. Solar Chapter saw the potential to add piping to SDN As Manulea from Chapter 1’s water reservoir as well as doing a construction project to renovate the school.

Concurrently, Solar Chapter is starting a new branch in the University of Michigan. This situation was seen as an opportunity to get the new branch on board with a project together with the Solar Chapter team at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Therefore, it was decided that the new University of Michigan branch will be working with the founding branch to help with the construction project of Chapter 2: Education.

Education for Nibaaf

Located in Desa Nibaaf, a village sitting in a dominantly forested region, SMKN Nibaaf is the only SMK in the district. With 125 students enrolled and 5 teachers, only 1 toilet is accessible; not only is it insufficient, sanitation is also poorly managed, posing numerous health risks to students and teachers. The school has been supplied with 17 laptops and 10 computers by the government but due to the teachers' lack of knowledge on these resources and internet connectivity, these resources have yet to benefit the quality of their education.
