Water for
Tunabesi

Project Brief
In Tunabesi, a remote village in Io Kufeu District, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, the 2,505 residents from 760 families face significant challenges in accessing clean water. The majority of villagers are farmers, cultivating crops such as betel leaf, nuts, coconuts, and corn, and raising livestock including pigs, cows, goats, and chickens. Although many residents have limited education, the village is served by elementary, middle, and high schools. Our objective is to enhance livelihood conditions by providing clean water access to at least 1,000 residents.
The lack of water access in Tunabesi has drastically reduced agricultural productivity and monthly income. During the prolonged dry season, villagers walk 1 to 3 kilometers to a seasonal spring, often returning empty-handed after long waits. This time-consuming task leaves little opportunity for farming or education, contributing to only 48% of residents completing elementary school. The water crisis, combined with reduced income and educational opportunities, hinders the community's development.
