Water for

Banuan

Project Year

2024

Project Brief

Banuan, Banuan, a remote village in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, is home to around 759 residents and 186 registered families. Villagers must walk 700 meters to 2 kilometers to reach water sources, or they buy water, paying 250,000-300,000 rupiah for 5,000 liters or 70,000 rupiah for 1,200 liters. Those who cannot afford this have no choice but to walk and wait in line due to the limited water flow. This project aims to reduce the distance villagers must travel for clean water, freeing them from contaminated sources and allowing them to focus on more productive activities.

From August 26-30, 2024, we implemented a solar-powered water pump system combined with gravity-fed pipes. Originally planned at 4.4 kilometers, the pipe route was adjusted to 3.3 kilometers, with the remaining pipes provided to the village for distribution, allowing a broader impact for the beneficiaries.

Implementation Journey

Day 1

On the 25th of August 2024, our team arrived at Banaun Village, embarking on a five-hour drive from Kupang Airport. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and had the privilege of meeting with the village head, who graciously provided accommodations at his residence for the duration of the implementation phase.

Eager to understand the local perspective, we engaged in insightful conversations with villagers, conducting interviews to glean insights into their issues, needs, and sentiments regarding the project.
