Water for

Manulea

Project Year

2024

Project Brief

In Manulea, a remote village in Sasitamean District, Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, the 2,681 residents from 623 families face challenges with clean water access. The villagers, divided into 2 hamlets, must travel between 700 meters to 1 kilometers on foot to reach a seasonal spring. During the dry season, the spring's flow decreases significantly, leading to long queues. The path to the spring is treacherous, with steep ascents and descents, and some sections are dangerously close to cliffs. The villagers in Manuela Village carry 20 liters of water per trip.

Day 1

Our team arrived at Manulea village and attended customary greetings arranged by the village community, then we dropped our baggage and checked the completeness of items (solar panels, electrical components, and pipe accessories). At night, we planned internal activities and delegated tasks with the leadership and community of Manulea village for Day 2.
