Project Brief
Solar Chapter decided to make Education as its second chapter after seeing the students of SDN As Manulea during their first implementation visit for Chapter 1: Water in Desa Umutnana, a neighboring village to Desa As Manulea.
SDN As Manulea, at the time of visit, did not have running water in the school and students had to spend approximately 2 hours to retrieve water before school and during school.
Additionally, the ceilings were run down, the library was left unused and many doors and locks were broken. Solar Chapter saw the potential to add piping to SDN As Manulea from Chapter 1’s water reservoir as well as doing a construction project to renovate the school.
Concurrently, Solar Chapter is starting a new branch in the University of Michigan. This situation was seen as an opportunity to get the new branch on board with a project together with the Solar Chapter team at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Therefore, it was decided that the new University of Michigan branch will be working with the founding branch to help with the construction project of Chapter 2: Education.
